Double Snake is a 2 player-focused homebrew Snake game for the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive. There are additional tiles, bonuses and effects introduced compared to the original Snake game to spice up the gameplay.
It is a port of an earlier PICO-8 version (available here https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?uid=113083).
Game modes
Solo — control one snake, collect apples, and chase your personal best.
Co-op — two players share a score and work together on the same field.
Versus — two players compete in rounds. The first player to win ten rounds wins the match.
Each mode supports:
Small, Medium, and Large fields
Slow, Medium, and Fast movement
Optional starting Shields
Unique maps with randomly walls, ponds and mud for each new round
Bonus apples
Dark bonus apples increase the score without growing the snake. Each one activates a random effect:
Picnic — adds nine apples to the field.
Shield — protects against one wall collision. Multiple Shields can be collected.
Cloud — temporarily obscures a moving area of the field.
Darkness — hides most of the field except the area around snake heads.
Blindness — obscures the area around the affected snake.
Pond — adds water where snake-to-snake collisions are ignored.
Mud — slows a snake while its head crosses the terrain.
Shock — temporarily stops a snake.
Slow — temporarily reduces a snake’s movement speed.
Body Switch — exchanges the two snake bodies.
New Wall — adds walls to the field.
Wall Break — removes existing walls.
Shock, Slow, and Body Switch are available only in two-player modes. In Versus, negative effects target the opponent.
