Initially released for PC platforms by Activision, a Genesis version was announced for 1990. Later on, Sega instead bought the rights to quickly rework the game into their own football title in time for released for the holiday season. Quality issues lead to the cancellation of the port and reworking, with Sega instead developing their own title, Joe Montana Football in January 1991.[23][127]
