After the introduction of Tails to Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992), staff at Sega Technical Institute pitched a spinoff game for the character that played as an isometric platformer/adventure game. The game was cancelled by February 1993. The developers could not recall how far development progressed, but in 2020, some mock up images discovered from a 1995 video resume were uploaded to the internet.[288]
