What this is
A patch that restores the final boss of the western (UE) release to match the Japanese version. The western fight is a brutal difficulty spike: the player reaches the end of a great game and hits a wall that is extremely difficult to overcome even with good play. The Japanese boss was far more reasonable, maybe too easy, but it did not ruin the game.
The difference is not the boss’s stats: it is two things the western release added to that room.
A saw running across the floor from side to side while the lasers fire at the player.
A conveyor belt in the floor, which also pushes the player around during the fight.
The patch removes both. The lasers and their rail stay, because they were already present in both versions, and Biomeka’s armour breaks exactly as before.
About the belt
The belt is still visible on the floor, but it no longer moves and no longer pushes the player. Removing its graphics as well would mean rebuilding the room’s floor with the Japanese version’s tiles, and that would require examining the room in the Japanese release, which uses a different floor. Replaying the entire Japanese version solely to obtain that data is not practical.
If anyone has a save file (or a RetroArch savestate) at the final boss in the Japanese version, sharing it would make it possible to examine the room and potentially make the floor identical to the original.
What it took
The patch went through five versions and each one uncovered something new, so older copies should be considered obsolete:
v1.0 — the belt stopped animating, but still pushed the player.
v1.1 — the push was fixed inside the fight, but still happened outside it.
v1.2 — the push was fixed for good, but the saw, while invisible, still existed and still hit the player.
v1.3 — no saw and no belt in the fight, neither on screen nor in effect. But stopping that belt also stopped the conveyor belts in the pyramid.
v1.4 — the fix now acts only inside the final boss room, so the pyramid belts push again.
The invisible saw was the nasty one: it could kill the player with nothing visible on screen, and it took a while to pin down.

The archive contains the English patches, in .bps (recommended) and .ips format, with a README.
IMPORTANT: If you had problems applying the patch, please download it again, even if it still shows the same version number. The patch files have been updated without changing the version number.
Also, please check the new checksum of the ROM you need to patch and make sure it matches the one listed in the patch description. An incorrect ROM will cause the patch to fail or produce an invalid result.
The ROM to patch
Both patches are applied to the clean, official western ROM (the dataset dump, the one in circulation):

How to patch
With Flips (Windows, Linux, macOS), Lunar IPS, MultiPatch or any other patching tool: open the patch, pick the unpatched ROM and save the result. With Flips, if the wrong patch is selected, it warns the user and refuses to proceed: that is the correct behaviour.
The .bps is recommended, since it verifies the source ROM and warns if it is not the right one. The .ips checks nothing, but works just as well.
The patch changes nothing outside the boss room: booting the game from scratch results in a ROM that is pixel-for-pixel identical to the original until the boss room is reached. It can be applied to a game already in progress, and the changes become apparent when entering the boss room.
